China wins girls' platform gold at AYG

Liu Jiao of China won the gold medal at the girls' 5m/10m platform finals in the first Asian Youth Games (AYG) on Tuesday.

Liu bagged the gold with a total of 492.05 points. Sin Ji Hyang from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea followed in second place with a score of 459.15, while Yun Seung Eun from South Korea closed out the top three with 392.90.

Liu's last dive at the finals was rewarded with a score of 85.00, the highest score in all the day's rounds of diving.

"This is the first time that I participated in an outdoor international competition, and I am happy with the result," the 15-year-old Chinese said after the competition.

The first Asian Youth Games is being held in Singapore from June 29 to July 7, with some 1,400 athletes aged between 14 and 17 from 45 Olympic Council of Asia's members competing in 90 events across nine sports.
