The top game of German Bundesliga on Sunday between Schalke 04 and Hamburger SV turned out to be a thrilling three-all draw.

A last-minute strike from Schalke forward Kevin Kuranyi ultimately rescued a point for Schalke after they had battled back from 2-0 down.

Hamburg started out like they meant business, but found little space to work in up front, with the home side content to sit deep in the opening stages.

Hamburg was reduced to 10 men just past the hour after a red card for David Rozehnal. The visitors still thought they had the game won when Marcus Berg got his second to make it 3-2 with 10 minutes left.

However, Kuranyi, who had already scored with a header in the 50th minute, dashed their hopes with his second goal to leave Schalke in fourth place on 20 points.

The striker escaped marker Guy Demel inside the box and met Rafinha's precise cross from the right with a header that went in off the inside of the post.

The result leaves Hamburg still second on goal difference, while Schalke drop to fourth behind Werder Bremen.

Bundesliga bottom team Hertha Berlin encountered defending Bundesliga champion VfL Wolfsburg at Berliner Olympia stadium on Sunday, but the game ended goalless.

The 0-0 draw make Wolfsburg slip from the fifth place to the seventh position, while Hertha remain at bottom of Bundesliga table.
