The Indonesian Amateur Boxing Association planned to resume Indonesian annual international boxing tournament called President's Cup international championships in May next year, the Jakarta Post reported on Saturday.

Setya Novanto, chairman of the association, said on Saturday that the tournament was suspended in 2004 partly because Indonesia's poor performance in the sport. He said once made names for Syamsul Anwar Harahap, Ferry Moniaga and Pino Bahari, who excelled in the Asian Games and Asian Championships.

"The President's Cup must be reinstated as part of our strategy to generate champions in regional and international boxing events. Since the 1980s our boxers have not won any gold medal in Asian, let alone world, competitions," he added.

But he also said that the association had not decided where the tournament will be held.
