China selects short track skaters for Winter Olympics

The National Short Track Speedskating Championships kicked off on Friday.

The best six athletes in men's and women's all-around competitions will make it to the training team for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

The championships features 500m, 1,000m, 1,500m, 3,000m and 5,000m relay with the participation of 93 athletes from 13 teams.

Besides the athletes selected from the national championships, the top three finishers in individual and relay events at the 2009 World Short Track Championships have already joined the Olympic training team.

Based on their scores at the World Cup, the national championships and training results, five athletes in men's and women's training teams will be chosen to participate in the Vancouver Olympics next year.

Ma Yunfeng and Li Wenwen, both from Heilongjiang Province, clinched the the men's and women's 1,500m respectively on Friday.
