Real Madrid striker Cristiano Ronaldo may have scored three goals in his last two games but he said on Thursday that he was still not at his best.
Ronaldo's two goals in Marseilles assured Real Madrid's place in the last 16 of the Champions League and followed on from the goal he scored last weekend against Almeria, a game in which he was also sent off.
The most expensive player in the World was a key factor in both matches, but speaking to sports paper Diario AS, he said he had still not fully recovered from the ankle injury that had kept him out of action for almost two months.
"I still don't feel 100 percent fit. I can still do better," he assured, before lamenting that his sending off at the weekend will stop him playing a vital match in Valencia this Saturday.
"It really upsets me that I will not play in Valencia," he added.
Real Madrid's win in Marseilles also assured that the club finished top of its qualifying group. That means it will play the second leg of its last 26 match at home and should face a theoretically easier rival in that round.
With the Champions League final to be held in Real Madrid's Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in May, Ronaldo admitted that everyone was extra motivated to go all the way in Europe.
"Of course we are all thinking about the final in the Bernabeu, but that is still a long way away," he said, adding that Europe was not his only motivation.
"I work hard every day to try and make history for Real Madrid," he said.
