A light snow is expected late on Wednesday after the first training session for the men's downhill at the pending Winter Olympics, according to the local weather forecast on Tuesday.

It's a sunny day on Tuesday with blue sky day in this Olympic resort, a snowfall is expected on Wednesday late after the opening training run for the men's downhill, which starts racing on Saturday.

The training run has been advanced to start at 10:30 a.m. from originally scheduled 11:45 a.m. for the sake of the snowfall.

Temperatures have been above freezing in Whistler recently, but snow is forecast for Wednesday and Thursday.

Over 1,200 volunteer course workers are ready to remove any new snow from the course, according to Dick Vollet, vice-president of mountain operations of the Vancouver Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games.

Unlike Cypress Bowl in West Vancouver, where snow has had to be trucked in to build freestyle and snowboard courses, Whistler's record early snowfall has not melted away.
