Botafogo soccer team beat Flamengo 2-1 to advance into the final of the Rio de Janeiro state championship on Wednesday.

Botafogo will face Vasco da Gama on February 21 in the final.

Flamengo took the early lead in the 24th minute when Vinicius Pacheco received a perfect give-and-go that left him unmarked in front of the Botafogo net. Pacheco pelted the ball directly at the Botafogo goalie Jefferson. Although Jefferson was able to bat the ball down, he was unable to avoid the ball from entering the right side of the goal.

Botafogo responded in the 33rd minute. After Flamengo's goalkeeper Bruno defended a Herrero shot, the ball came down at the feet of Marcelo Cordeiro who drove the ball into the upper left corner of the goal.

Botafogo scored the winner in the 83rd minute with Herrera finding the net.
