Sung Si-bak set a new Olympic record of one minute and 24.245 seconds on Wednesday to lead three South Korean skaters into the men's 1,000 meters short track speed skating quarter-finals of the Vancouver Olympic Winter Games.

Newly-crowned 1,500m Olympic champion Lee Jung-su and Lee Ho-suk, who clashed with Sung in Saturday's 1,500m final, also advanced with respective victories in the heats.

Having collected a silver and bronze on Saturday, Apolo Anton Ohno and J.R. Celski of the United States went on to claim berths in the 1,000m quarterfinals where they will be joined by Charles and Francois Hamelin from Canada and Han Jialiang and Liang Wenhao of China.

South Korea, China, Canada and the United Stated also qualified for the men's 5,000m final as top two finishers in the semifinals later on Wednesday.
