Brazilian soccer club Vasco da Gama announced on Friday the possibility of Abel Braga becoming the new head coach.
Vagner Mancini was fired on Monday after suffering his fourth consecutive loss. Abel Braga currently coaches the Al Jazira soccer team in the United Arab Emirates. However, he expressed his interest in the position and the prospect of returning to Brazil.
The head coach admits to missing his family and friends in Brazil. His son Fabio used to live with him in the United Arab Emirates and even played with Al Jazira, but Fabio returned to Brazil for the comforts of home. All alone, Braga is excited about returning to Brazil.
Another factor weighing in on the coach's arrival at Vasco da Gama is that he used to play alongside the team's current president, Roberto Dinamite, in the 1970's with Vasco.
Braga stated that he is unable to fill the position immediately due to his contractual obligations with Al Jazira. But he will be free from his contract in May.
Apart from Abel Braga, the other candidates most likely to fill Vagner Mancini's shoes are Celso Roth, Tite and Emerson Leo.
As for now, the club's coach of the juniors' team, Gaucho, will lead the team into the cross-town battle against Fluminense on March 28.
