Kim Clijsters from Belgium came from behind to edge her compatriot Justine Henin at the Wimbledon Championships on Monday, reaching the women's singles quarterfinals after a three-year absence from the All England Club.

The eighth seed Clijsters lost the opening set 6-2, but fought back to win the following two sets 6-2, 6-3 to set up an encounter with Russian Vera Zvonareva in the quarterfinals.

Zvonareva, the 21st seed led her match with Serbian Jelena Jankovic 6-1, 3-0 before the fourth seed retired due to a back injury.

Clijsters, 27, announced her retirement in May 2007 but declared her return almost two years later.

Cljisters last year won her second U.S. Open title in her only third tournament back, becoming the first unranked player and a wildcard entrant to win the tournament.

Henin, also made a comeback last September after 16-month retirement, then reached the final of this year's Australian Open. Later, the four time French Open champion ended her Roland Garros journey in the round of last 16.
