Olympic gold medalist Wu Jingyu and world champion Hou Yuzhuo will lead Chinese assault at the taekwondo World Cup to be held from July 16 to 20 in Urumqi, capital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, a Chinese team official said on Monday.

The Chinese squad, consisting of 16 athletes, take the World Cup as a warm-up for this year's Asian Games in Guangzhou, said Zhao Lei, deputy director of the country's taekwondo association.

"Our athletes trained very hard recently. I think they would have a good performance on home soil," said Zhao.

Around 400 athletes from 53 countries and regions have confirmed to enter the World Cup, the largest ever in the history of the sport.
