"It will be the second time I was named the Olympic flag bearer after the Beijing Olympics," Yang was quoted by the newspaper based in Guangzhou where the Asian Games will be held later this year.

Yang was written into the Chinese sport history as she won China's first winter Olympic gold medal in the 500m short track speedskating event at the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Games before she went on to take the 1,000m title.

China fielded a 106-member delegation, including 68 athletes, to Singapore.

All the athletes competing at the Youth Games must be aged between 14 and 18.
