South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) club Mamelodi Sundowns were on Thursday reported to have refused an improved 14 million rand (1.92 million U.S. dollar) offer from Russian Club Terek Grozny for star striker Katlego Mphela.

The Russian club on Tuesday doubled their original bid, without success, the player's agent Steven Kapeluschnik told The Times newspaper in Johannesburg.

"I went back to the club (in Russia) for an improved offer for Mphela, but on Tuesday, Sundowns rejected the improved offer, which might be some sort of a record for a South African club to be offered 14 million rands," he said.

"They have failed to discuss why they can't accept the offer and it looks like Mphela will be playing in the PSL this season."

Mphela, who has 18 goals in 36 matches for South Africa, has been in demand since top-scoring in the Premier Soccer League last season and impressing at the recent World Cup hosted in South Africa. Scottish champions Glasgow Rangers have also declared their interest in him.
