Jamaican sprint Olympic champion Usain Bolt has extended sponsorship deal with German sportswear giant Puma until the end of 2013.

Thouth the specific terms of the contract were undisclosed, Puma said the deal would make Bolt, the reigning 100-meter and 200m world record holder, the best paid on the circuit.

"The figure is by far the largest ever given to a track and field athlete, positioning Bolt as a top earner in the world of sport, a further acknowledgment of his astonishing achievements over the past two years," Puma said.

The German company first signed with the Jamaican in 2003 when he was just 16 years old.

Bolt has brought an early end to his season this year because of a nagging back problem.
