Diego Maradona said Friday that he wants nothing but to get back the coach job of Argentina's national soccer team.

"I'd give my life to be the national team coach," the former star forward told the Fox Sports in an interview, broadcasting from his house in the Buenos Aires suburb of Ezeiza.

"I'm dying to be with the team," he added. "I am thirsty for revenge."

Maradona was dismissed from the coaching post after the South American powerhouses were ousted from the World Cup in South Africa following a 4-0 humiliation by Germany in the quarterfinals.

The Argentine Football Association had intended to renew his contract, only if he got rid of his assistant coaches, but was refused by Maradona and thus turned to hire Sergio Batista.

Batista has led Argentina to two friendly victories, defeating Ireland 1-0 and World Cup champions Spain 4-1.
