At home against Corinthians in the 28th round of the Brazilian Championship, Atletico-MG won 2-1 on Wednesday.
The win marked Atletico-MG's first string of back-to-back wins in this year's tournament.
Corinthians scored the game's first goal in the 44th minute of play. Off a crossed ball from Alessandro, Paulinho took advantage of Atletico-GO's keeper Renan Ribeiro's poor position and redirected the ball with his chest into the open net.
Atletico-MG tied the match in the 60th minute. Off a corner kick, Werley leaped between the Corinthians defense to head the ball into the back of the net. Corithians' keeper Julio Cesar was able to put a glove on the ball, but could not avoid the ball from entering the goal.
Atletico-MG took the lead in the 78th minute when Serginho sent a stopped ball towards the front of the Corinthians goal. Ze Luis leaped above the defense to head the ball past a diving Julio Cesar.
Despite the loss, Corinthians remains in second place with 49 points. In the 29th round of play, Corinthians will receive Atletico-GO on October 10.
Atletico-MG improved to 17th place with 28 points. In the next round of play, the team will travel to play at Internacional on October 10.
