Australian tennis player Lleyton Hewitt completed the perfect preparation for next week's Australian Open by winning Saturday's Kooyong Classic in Melbourne of Victoria, Australia.

ABC Sports reported that Hewitt defeated Frenchmen Gael Monfils 7-5, 6-3 in 89 minutes at the final of the Kooyong Classic in Melbourne.

Meanwhile, the 12th-ranked Monfils was clearly restricted in his movement and grimaced repeatedly when chasing down returns on a steamy day at Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club.

According to the 29-year-old Hewitt, he was playing well leading into the first major of the season and capable of causing upsets in the draw.

Twice grand slam champion Hewitt, coming back after three months off to recover from a hand injury, will meet David Nalbandian of Argentina in the first round of the Australian Open.
