Denmark's top seed Caroline Wozniacki crashed out in the third round of the 8.585-million-euro Madrid Masters tennis tournament, losing 1-2 to Julia Goerges of Germany.

The current WTA first-ranked Wozniacki struggled to find her rhythm in the over two hours' match, only to see a jubilant Goerges march on with the 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 victory.

It was Wozniacki's second straight defeat to the German in two weeks. The 27th-ranked Goerges stunned the Dane 11 days ago to win a clay title in Stuttgart.

Wozniacki has won three titles in five finals this season to lead in the WTA tour.
