Chen Nan scored 10 of 16 points in the second half to lead China to a 75-70 win over Australia on Friday night, helping the hosts take the title of the second-leg at the Four-Nation Women's Basketball Tournament.
The home team, winner of the first-leg with a three-win record last week in Changzhi, shared two wins and one loss with Australians in this second-leg during the three-day, round-ronbin tourney.
China, who were beaten by New Zealand 83-82 on Wednesday, got 13 points from Zhao Shuang, 9 from 2.06-meter Center Wei Wei, bench Ma Zengyu and Chen Xiaojia, who played only two minutes and 50 seconds in the last five games.
Australia, who lost China ranked third last week, opened the game with a 9-0 and finished first quarter 22-16 and took the lead as many as 12 points for 28-16 after a 6-0 run in the beginning of second quarter. But China stormed back and cut it to 33-38 at halftime and 57-59 at the end of the third quarter.
Chen Nan led a 16-5 charge with six points to put China up to a 73-64 advantage only two minutes to go. Ma Zengyu's lay-up in last five seconds sealed the victory after Australia made a 6-0 spurt. [ Abby Bishop contributed the game-high 19 points and eight rebounds for Australia, who out-rebounded China 34-25 but made 21 turnovers campared to China's 16, and Elyse Penaluna added 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Ealier Friday, Brazil defeated New Zealand 75-63 to place third with one win and two losses.
