Hundreds of tennis fans have turned out to greet French Open Champion Li Na in Beijing.

It's the first time that Li Na has taken time to meet her Chinese fans and the media since returning from her triumph in Europe.

According to the WTA, over 116 million people tuned in on the television to watch Li's 6-4 7-6 victory over Francesca Schiavone, making the clay court final the most watched sporting event in China this year.

"Of course, thanks everyone for supporting me and endorsing my French Open title. I have been working very hard to be a champion. No matter what I achieve in the future, I will play my best out on the court."

The hundreds of fans were also joined by WTA and Chinese sports officials celebrate Li's success.
