China's Wuzhong to hold international half marathon

The second international marathon along Yellow River is going to be held in Wuzhong city of Northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region on Sept. 17.

According to the organizers, professional runners will take part in the men's and women's half marathon. And amateur runners just need to run a route of 10 kilometers.

"Around 30,000 people are expected to paticipate in this event. Till now, 20 runners from foreign countries and regions including Iran, Malaysia and Ethiopia have been invited to compete," said Mai Yuxiang, official with the organizing committee.

Mai also said that the winners of the men's and women's half marathon can pocket 10,000 U.S dollars and 5,000 U.S dollars respectively.

Chinese professional runners will have changce to gain some points in the half marathon, which will pave the way for him/her to take part in higher-level marathons, said Mai.

The first Ningxia international marathon kicked off on Sept. 19, 2010, with about 39,700 runners contending for honors in four cities in Northwest China's Ningxia Hui autonomous region.
