Humiliated after Arsenal conceded the most goals in a game since the 19th century, Arsene Wenger began plotting how to turn around the beleaguered team's fortunes, and the club offered to appease fans with free tickets.

The 8-2 thrashing at Manchester United on Sunday left Arsenal with just a solitary point after three matches of the Premier League season and plunged Wenger into the deepest crisis of his 15-year reign.

Such was the sense of contrition at Arsenal on Monday that around 3,000 fans who traveled to Old Trafford were told they would be offered the compensation of having a future away match ticket paid for.

"Sunday's result was obviously disappointing for everyone connected with the club," Arsenal said. "Our traveling fans were magnificent throughout and we want to recognize their fantastic support. We will be writing to them shortly with the (ticket) details."

Arsenal meanwhile has signed South Korea captain Park Chu-young from Monaco. The 26-year-old striker scored 25 goals in 91 appearances during three seasons in France.

Also, Queens Park Rangers signed Senegal defender Armand Traore from Arsenal. He is the third signing since Air Asia chief executive Tony Fernandes took over at Loftus Road earlier this month, joining Joey Barton and Luke Young.
