Vettel of Red Bull celebrates winning the 2011 F1 world championship during the award ceremony of the Japanese Grand Prix. |
The 24-year-old sealed the title with four races remaining becoming only the fourth driver to wrap up a championship in Japan.
The race itself was won by McLaren's Jenson Button, with Fernando Alonso finishing second, but all the headlines will go to Vettel who needed just one point to seal the championship in Suzuka.
Vettel said: "To win the championship here is fantastic. There's so many things you want to say in this moment but it's hard to remember all of them. I'm just so thankful to everyone in the team and it's great to achieve the goal that we set ourselves going in to this year."
Vettel has enjoyed an incredible season this term winning nine of the 15 races so far, and at 24 years and 98 days, becoming the youngest double champion in F1 history.
