Kohei Uchimura of Japan won the men's all-around gold medal in the gymnastics world championships Friday in Tokyo, making him become the first person to three consecutive individual all-around title at the World Championships.
The 22-year-old Japanese champion Uchimura dazzled on the high bar at last and collected a winning total of 93.631 points, outscoring Philipp Boy of Germany who took the silver medal with a total score of 90.530. Japan' s Koji Yamamuro took the bronze medal with 90.255.
Uchimura did almost flawlessly in every event. He told Xinhua after the competition that although he got very high scores, it wasn't the score that he paid most attention to during the competition. "I'm just focusing on competing every event with my best and I'm happy about the results," Uchimura said.
Uchimura said he felt slightly disappointed about not getting the team gold medal earlier but now with the all-around gold medal in hand he felt better.
Uchimura won the individual all-around Silver Medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. He won the individual all-around title three years in a row at the World Championships in London in 2009, Rotterdam in 2010, and Tokyo in 2011.
China's Teng Haibin ranked the 18th with a total score of 87.031.
He told Xinhua even though he didn't think much about the scores and ranking this time before the competition, he still felt dissatisfied with his own performances.
