Leverkusen's Sidney Sam (L) and Jordi Alba (C) of Valencia vie for the ball during the UEFA Champions League group E soccer match between Bayer Leverkusen and Valencia CF at BayArena Stadium in Leverkusen, Germany, 19 October 2011.

Bundesliga team Leverkusen turned a 0-1 deficit within four minutes to win 2-1 thanks to the winner by midfielder Sidney Sam in front of the home crowd at group stage of UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.

Leverkusen staged an absolute sloppy first half against aggressive and offensively minded soccer. Consequently, with 24 minutes into the match Valencia striker Jonas Goncalves Oliveira utilized a cross from the left wing to score the opener.

With beginning of the second half Leverkusen staged an absolute contrasting performance as they pressed Valencia into defence to enforce their offensive actions. Seven minutes into second half Leverkusen equalized the score through youngster Andre Schuerrle who exploited a cross from the left wing to volley home from penalty line. Valencia remained shocked so that Leverkusen was able to turn the match only four minutes after the equalizer.

German veteran, and Leverkusen midfielder Michael Ballack passed into path of midfielder Sidney Sam who curled home from 15m into the top left to seal the deal for the "Werkself."

"Today my team staged a highly efficient performance. The first half was not so nice but the second half was a run on goal," Leverkusen coach Robin Dutt said after the victory.

Chelsea sits on top of group E with seven points followed by Leverkusen with six, Valencia with two and Genk with one point after the third match day of Champions League group stage.
