The top-seeded table tennis players at the 2011 Women's World Cup headed off to a good start on Friday, with China's top players Li Xiaoxia and Ding Ning both winning in straight sets.

Li Xiaoxia, currently world No. 1, was leading the group A of players after defeating South Korean defensive specialist Kim Kyung Ah 11-4, 11-1, 11-6 and 11-4. She also beat Japan's popular player Ai Fukuhara in straight sets. She has only one round-robin match to play on Friday.

Fukuhara and Kim beat Shen Yanfei of Spain 4-1 in separate matches.

Ding Ning, the world No. 2, beat Li Jiao of Netherlands 4-0 in a match of group B.

Host players Wang Yuegu and Li Jiawei, both in group B, collided in a match earlier on Friday with Wang winning the match 4-2.

Their teammate Feng Tianwei, the world No. 4, lost the first set 10-12 against Jiang Huajun of Hong Kong, China, but managed to come back in the next four sets as the local crowd cheered on. She was leading the group C.

Kasumi Ishikawa of Japan, the world No. 7, lost 1-4 against German player Wu Jiaduo in one of the few mild surprises.

The top two players from each of the groups after the round-robin matches will play the quarter finals on Saturday for the 150,000 U.S. dollar event. The winner will get a prize of 45,000 dollars.
