Asian Beach Volleyball Championship 2011 kicked off on Thursday at the Holiday Beach in Haikou, the Capital city of southern China's Hainan Province.
Fifty-two men's and women's beach volleyball teams from 14 countries and regions in Asia took part in the event. A total of 104 players will compete for a total prize of 100,000 U.S. dollars.
Star players of the hosts, including Xue Chen and Zhang Xi, the women's Olympic bronze medal winners, are the favorites.
The four-day event starts with group stages in the first three matchdays from Dec. 8-10 and the semifinals and finals to be played on Dec. 11.
This is the third consecutive year for China to host the Asian beach volleyball championship as a five-year pack has been signed.
