Judd Trump claimed the UK Championship title at his first attempt with a 10-8 win over Mark Allen at the Barbican in York.

In match of stunning quality, Allen looked to be on his way to a memorable comeback after coming back from 8-3 down to close it to 9-8, but Trump finally got over the line to take the victory.

Allen opened the contest the stronger as the Northern Irishman secured himself a 3-1 lead. However, some superb positional play by Trump saw the Bristolian claim the next four frames to start the evening 5-3 ahead.

Both men received a standing ovation on emerging into the arena for the late session, but of two players who both seem to thrive on the bigger stages it was Trump who found some of the 'naughty snooker' he had promised pre-match on Twitter.

Allen was left watching in dismay from his chair as his opponent caught fire, and breaks of 109, 78 and 74 flowed effortlessly from the cue of the new world No 5.

Allen clawed back to 9-8 with three centuries in four frames, but a 91 from Trump won him the title.

"It sounds brilliant to be called UK champion. Mark pushed me the whole way, and it was a good job I had a big lead," said Trump.
