Beijing Ducks are on the verge of their first CBA title after Stephon Marbury's fourth quarter brilliance helped them overwhelm the defending champion Guangdong Southern Tigers 107-98 on Wednesday night.
Beijing now leads the best-of-seven series 3-1 and can wrap it up Friday in Game 5.
The game remained close through the first three quarters with Beijing taking a 76-70 lead into the final 12 minutes.
Marbury, who scored 11 points in the fourth quarter, inspired a 7-0 run to lead the host up 101-92 with 3:59 remaining. Aaron Brooks scored five consecutive points to keep Guangdong in the game, yet he was unable to help his team to complete the comeback.
Randolph Morris led Beijing with game-high 32 points. Zhai Xiaochuan added 17 points.
"It's a tough game. We played good defense, which is the key to our victory," Min Lulei, head coach of Beijing said after the match. "I never thought we could lead 3-1 in the finals. Now we will focus on the next game."
James Singleton and Brooks combined 50 points for Guangdong.
No team in CBA history has ever overcome a 3-1 deficit in the Finals. Game 5 will be on Friday in Beijing.
