Two Chinese tennis players advance at Japan Open

Chinese tennis players Zheng Jie and Zhou Yimiao both reached the second round of the HP Japan Women's Open Tennis on Tuesday.

The Japan Open, one of the international events in the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) tour and sponsored by Hewlett-Packard Japan, was held for the fourth time in Utsubo Tennis Center in the western Japanese city of Osaka, featuring outstanding players from 25 countries and regions around the world, including Samantha Stosur from Australia.

Zheng beat Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez of Spain 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 in the first round. This match had been expected to be an easy one for the 29-year-old Zheng, who ranked 27th in the world.

Zhou was also delight with her performance by a straight sets win 7-5, 6-4 over 20-year-old Japanese Kurumi Nara on Tuesday afternoon.
