Armstrong doping scandal

Lance Armstrong has been stripped of his seven Tour de France titles, after the International Cycling Union accepted the findings of the United States Anti-Doping Agency's investigation. UCI president Pat McQuaid has confirmed Armstrong has been stripped of all his Tour titles.

Sportswear company Skins is suing cycling's governing body for US$2 million, claiming its brand has been damaged by backing the sport as the Armstrong doping scandal unraveled.

Pat McQuaid said, "The UCI will ban Lance Armstrong from cycling and strip him of his seven Tour de France titles. Lance Armstrong has no place in cycling. The UCI will also recognize the sanctions imposed upon the riders who testified against Lance Armstrong. The UCI indeed thanks them for telling their stories."

Armstrong, received a life ban from the U.S. anti-doping agency for what the organization referred to as the most sophisticated, professionalized and successful doping program that the world of sports has ever witnessed.

The American cyclist, who overcame cancer to return to professional cycling, won the Tour de France in seven successive years from 1999 to 2005. He has always denied the use of doping but chose not to fight the charges filed against him.
