The world’s spotlight turns to London’s Olympic Stadium where the opening ceremony for the 2012 Olympic Games is being held.

It is an eccentric and exuberant celebration of British history, art and culture. Oscar-winning "Slumdog Millionaire" director Danny Boyle has masterminded the show. Titled "Isles of Wonder", the show features 10,000 performers over nearly three hours.

Boyle focuses heavily on the industries that revolutionized Britain in the 18th and 19th centuries, turning it into the workshop of the world and giving Britons the might upon which they built an empire that reshaped world history.

Britain’s Queen Elizabeth arrived at the opening ceremony in spectacular style, greeted by a huge roar from the crowd as she appeared in the stadium to help officially open the Games.

Minutes earlier the 86-year-old monarch appeared in her first film role alongside James Bond actor Daniel Craig at Buckingham Palace. An audience of around 60 thousand is attending the ceremony.
