With men's 10 meters air rifle, the Romanian shooter Alin George Moldoveanu kept everyone waiting before calmly firing a decisive 10.3 shot at the Royal Artillery Barracks in London to claim his country's first gold medal of the London Games.

He produced a commanding, consistent finish for a total of 702 point 1 points, ahead of Italy's competitor on 701 point 5.

China's shooter Wang Tao ranked number 4 in the event with a score of 700.4. Star Chinese shooter Zhu Qinan was disqualified before the final. Zhu won the gold medal at the 2004 Athens Olympics and silver at the 2008 Beijing Olympics in the same event.
