Ruben Limardo Gascon of Venezuela ended his country's 44-year Olympic gold medal drought on Wednesday after he beat Norway's Bartosz Piasecki 15-10 in the men's epee final of the Olympic Games.

Piasecki also made history as his silver was also a first fencing medal for Norway.

Jung Jinsun of South Korea beat Seth Kelsey of the United States by a single touch to clinch the bronze.

Jung's compatriot Kim Jiyeon won the women's fencing sabre gold medal after defeating Russia's Sofya Velikaya 15-9.

Olga Kharlan of Ukraine won bronze with a surprise defeat of America's double champion Mariel Zagunis.
