Russia's Dmitry Ushakov was 1.221 points trailing to win Russia a silver medal and the defending Olympic champion Lu Chunlong settled with bronze in 61.319 points.

Dong set the pace at the qualifications with 112.895 points out of two routines and Ushakov was also in second with Lu third. The top three places remained the same in the final.

Dong presented a much more difficult routine in the final in 17.800-point difficulty, which gave him an edge over Ushakov and Lu, whose routines were both executed soundly, but both in 17.100 difficulty.

Canada's Jason Burnett didn't finish his move after he fell on the boundary. Both Japanese trampolinists Masaki Ito and Yasuhiro Ueyama made errors on center bound control and finally finished in fourth and fifth places.
