The 2012-2013 WCBA regular season concluded on Tuesday with an unusual ranking that saw Zhejiang led unanticipated, while defending champion Beijing finished sixth and the five-time titles winner Bayi failed to enter the playoff.

The arrival of some highe-level international players is one of the reasons that caused a big change in this WCBA season.

Maya Moore, the 1.83-meter American forward, is the top headline hitter in this season, leading Shanxi to finish as runners-up in the regular season table.

The American's frequent double-double performance helped Shanxin enjoy a long winning streak midway in the season and if she was not injured in the last rounds, Shanxi may have a good chance to obtain the top spot in the standings.

The 21-year-old Australian Elizabeth Campbage, who was the first female basketball player ever dunked in the Olympics, aided Zhejiang to the first place by cooperating with her teammate Bian Lan, one of the top Chinese basketball players.

Besides, Liaoning signed Belarus internationalr Yelena Leuchanka and Guangdong signed three-time Olympic winner Tamika Catchings of United States. The foreign players basically occupied all the top positions in the technical statistics of WCBA.

However, foreign players could not be the solution in all cases. Losing Chinese forward Zhang Yu this season weakened Beijing for lacking stable scorer and the American player Sophia Young could not keep Beijing from falling to the sixth all by herself.

Bayi, the five-time champions of WCBA and without any foreign players, failed to enter the playoff and narrowly avoided relegation after an over-time victory in the last round.

The playoff matches will kick off on Jan. 15 with Zhejiang to meet Guangdong and Shanxi to play Jiangsu.
