Li Na of China came from behind to knock off American teenager Madison Keys 4-6, 7-6 (7/2), 6-2 in a night match on Wednesday to reach the semi-finals of the Sydney International tennis tournament.

Li has not lost a match this year, winning her first title in Shenzhen last week, and she has an excellent record at the Sydney International, where she won the title in 2011 and was runner-up to Victoria Azarenka last year.

"Maybe it's a lucky area for me," Li said.

Li said she was surprised by the power and big serve displayed by Keys, who Li predicted would rapidly improve on her ranking of 135.

"She has a huge, big serve and I was waiting a little bit in the back. In the second set I tried to play more aggressive and I was happy to come away with the match, it was a tough match.

"If she plays like this every match she will soon be in the top 20, top 15, top ten."

Li will next meet world No 4 and tournament top seed Poland’s Agnieszka Radwanska in the semi-finals.

Radwanska clinched a seventh straight victory to beat Italian world No 16 Roberta Vinci 6-4, 7-5 in just over an hour and a half.
