Russian leg of World Universiade torch relay starts

The Russian leg of the Universiade torch relay began in Vladivostok on Friday. The first torchbearer is famous Russian hockey player Alexey Morozov.

The total length of the torch relay route in Vladivostok is 15.5km. A total of 70 torchbearers will run through the streets of the city. Among them are famous Russian athletes, volunteers, social activists, TV personalities.

Travelling from west to east, the flame will be carried through Russia's 30 top student cities and then pass through 43 municipal districts of the Republic of Tatarstan, finishing its odyssey in Kazan on July 6th, on the day of the 2013 Summer Universiade opening ceremony.

In July 2012, the ceremony of handling the Universiade flame over to Russia's Sedov bark crew took place in the French port of Brest. After that, the vessel crossed the Atlantic Ocean, the Pacific Ocean and visited three continents before arriving in Russia.
