Hungary's first-class tennis player retires

Agnes Szavay, 24, who had placed as high as 13th in the WTA rankings, announced her retirement from tennis on Wednesday due to injuries.

Szavay had won five WTA tournaments as a singles player and two in doubles, Hungarian Tennis Association reported on its website.

She has been playing for 10 years but has been unable to regain top form since cracking a vertebra a year ago.

Szavay, who has won WTA tournaments in Palermo (2007), Beijing (2007), Budapest (2009, 2010) and Prague (2010) is considering opening a tennis school.
