A red-hot Lin Tzu-chi scorched the field at the Ningbo Challenge on Friday, firing a seven-under-par 65 to open up a five-shot lead through two rounds of the China LPGA Tour event.

The Chinese Taipei player, a regular on the U.S. Futures Tour, came to the CLPGA circuit to sharpen her game as she plans to attend the qualifying schools for both the Japan LPGA and US LPGA Tours later this year.

Taking advantage of a light rain that softened the greens at the Ningbo Orient Golf Club, the 22-year-old carded eight birdies against a lone bogey for a 36-hole score of 11-under-par 133.

"Today was a little bit crazy. In fact I didn't think too much. I tried to stay in the moment, forgetting anything happened. I didn't know how many birdies (I had) until the round finished," Lin said.

"A five shot lead is huge. Definitely, I am much more relaxed (now) than when I lead by one or two shots. But anything can happen in 18 holes so I will not be careless in the final round."

Chinese veteran Yang Taoli was a distant second following a 68, while 17-year-old amateur Liu Yu was two shots further back after her second consecutive round of 70.

"Yes, a five shot lead is very big but tomorrow I will play aggressive and come on and go for it," said Yang who has been playing in Japan the past two seasons.

With the weather turning from rain in the morning to sunny conditions in the afternoon, the greens at Ningbo Orient softened considerably allowing for eight eagles to be registered by the field.

Tan had two of the eagles, including the first hole, her 10th hole, when she holed out from 94 yards with a 50-degree wedge. At the par-five seventh, she put her approach from 200 yards out to within 10 feet of the pin and converted the putt on her way to a round of 68, eight shots back.

"Today, I am also greedy at (par-five) 17th hole and put the approach into the water," said the 30-year-old from Shandong. "But I had two eagles. You would never be satisfied even with a low score. You always hope for a better score. But I had to say it's great round."

The fifth year of the China LPGA Tour features 10-plus events culminating in the Hyundai China Ladies Open this December in Xiamen, Fujian province.
