Chinese water polo team eliminates Italy to reach last 4

The Chinese women's water polo team outclassed Athens Olympic champions Italy to reach the semifinals at the FINA World League Super Final on Tuesday.

The hosts, runners-up at the 2011 Shanghai world championships, led throughout the match to beat Italy 11-8. China will meet London Olympic champions the United States at the semis Wednesday.

China beat the United States by shootout 16-15 last Saturday at the group stage.

Also Tuesday, Russia surprisingly stunned London Olympic runners-up Spain 11-9 to reach the semifinals. Russia will face Hungary on Wednesday.
