Zhu Jiong was fired as head coach of Shanghai Shenxi.

Shanghai Shenxin sacked head coach Zhu Jiong yesterday, just three days after city rival Shanghai Shenhua's head coach Sergio Batista resigned.

Qin Ping, the club's general manager, cited the team's poor performance in the Chinese Super League as the reason for Zhu's dismissal. "It was a hard decision. We appreciate Zhu's hard work over the past few years, however, a club has its expectations."

Shenxin finished second from bottom last season, and currently sits 13th in the 16-team top tier league with 16 points from 16 matches. Zhu, a former Shenhua player, took over in 2009 when the team was called Nanchang Hengyuan FC. The team renamed itself last year and is now based at Yuanshen Stadium in Pudong. Team leader Guo Guangqi was named caretaker coach.
