Cesc Fabregas is top of Manchester United's transfer list and they are prepared to break their transfer record with a third bid.

Manchester United could be about to break their transfer record with a third and final bid of £35m for Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas.

Despite having had two previous offers of £26 million and £30 million rejected, David Moyes still sees Fabregas as his prime transfer target.

Although Barcelona's preference is to keep hold of the former Arsenal captain, it is understood that they could be swayed by the huge sum, which is believed to be worth around £40 million, comprising a £35 million basic fee plus add-ons.

A £35 million deal would represent a club record, eclipsing the £31 million paid to Spurs for Dimitar Berbatov in 2008, and would also be Moyes's first major statement in the transfer market.

Should the move fail to materialise, United will look to Everton's Marouane Fellaini and Real Madrid's Luka Modric as alternatives.
