Chinese trio advances while Cirstea bows out

Top-seeded Sorana Cirstea crashed out of the Guangzhou Open in the first round yesterday, while a trio of Chinese hopefuls gave the home fans something to cheer about.
Cirstea, a semifinalist last year, failed to overcome her first hurdle yesterday and was easily beaten by Serbia's Bojana Jovanovski 6-2, 6-1.
Zheng Saisai of China warmed up the crowd with a grueling 6-7 (3/7), 6-3, 7-5 win against Thailand's Luksika Kumkhum. The match lasted two hours 50 minutes.
Chinese veterans Zheng Jie and Peng Shuai also won. Zheng Jie beat Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan 6-1, 6-4.
Laura Robson, seeded third, eased through to the second round with a victory over Serbian Jovana Jaksic 6-2, 6-4 in her opening game. Robson will next play Zheng Saisai.
Also through to the next round was the second seed Alize Cornet of France, who outclassed Olga Govortsova of Belarus 6-3, 6-1.
In other first-round matches, Austrian Yvonne Meusburger beat Ukraine's Lesia Tsurenko 6-3, 6-4, and Serbian Vesna Dolonc overcame Poland's Urszula Radwanska 7-5, 6-2 in a hard-fought game which lasted almost one hour 50 minutes.
Defending champion Hsieh Su-Wei of Chinese Taipei sailed through her first-round match on Monday.
In Seoul, South Korea, top-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland advanced to the second round of the Korea Open by beating Alexandra Cadantu 6-4, 6-0 yesterday.
Second-seeded Maria Kirilenko of Russia, eighth-seeded Annika Beck of Germany and unseeded Kimiko Date-Krumm of Japan also won.
