Former Netherlands national coach Bert van Marwijk took over at struggling Hamburg for a two-year deal, the club announced on its official homepage on Monday.

German Bundesliga team Hamburg signed former Dutch national team and Borussia Dortmund head coach Bert van Marwijk, following the dismissal of Thorsten Fink six days ago.

"We are pleased that we were able to engage with Bert van Marwijk a coach for Hamburg, who has an extensive experience and demonstrated his expertise in numerous cases, "Hamburg director of sport Oliver Kreutzer said.

The 61-year-old Dutchman faces a challenging task, as the Rothosen dropped into the Bundesliga basement with just one win, one draw and four loses in six matches. The poor performances culminated into a hammering 6-2 loss to Dortmund that signified the end of Thorsten Fink.

However, van Marwijk knows the ropes of the Bundesliga as he already coached Dortmund from 2004 until 2006.

The new Hamburg coach brings along his assistant coach Roel Coumans, who coached Dutch second division side Fortuna Sittard up to now.
