Chinese No. 1 Li Na will face Australian Open titleholder Victoria Azarenka in the White Group at this week's WTA Championships in Istanbul. The group also includes Italian Sara Errani and Serbian Jelena Jankovic.
"In the Championships, no one ever has an easy draw. You have to be ready when you come to the court. It's a big challenge," Li said after the the draw ceremony on Sunday.
World No. 1 and defending champion Serena Williams will face former winner Petra Kvitova, Poland's Agnieszka Radwanska and German Angelique Kerber in the Red Group.
The American is bidding to become the first player to retain the WTA Championships since Justine Henin in 2007. If she achieves the feat, it would be her fourth season-ending title.
Round-robin play runs from Tuesday to Friday, with the top two in each group advancing to Saturday's semifinals.
