Wesley Sneijder applied the killer blow five minutes from the end to send his side into the round of 16 at the expense of the Italian champions.

A Wseley Sneijder goal five minutes from time saw Turkey's Galatasaray beat Italian champions Juventus 1-0 and qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League yesterday in Istanbul.

In a match abandoned after just 31 minutes on Tuesday night, Juventus had needed only a draw to finish second in Group B and join Real Madrid in the knock-out stages.

But, on a heavy pitch and in cold conditions, the Turks held firm in the face of Juventus pressure.

Sneijder's goal was an opportunist strike.

On Tuesday, the match was postponed after "both captains and the referee agreed that the pitch had become dangerous," said European soccer's governing body UEFA.
