Top seed David Ferrer, world No. 3, outlasted his fellow Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez in three sets Thursday to reach the semifinals of the Auckland Open.

The other three berths were taken up by third-seeded American John Isner, Chinese Taipei's Lu Yen-hsun and Spain's Roberto Bautista Agut.

Ferrer took the first set 6-3, then broke Garcia-Lopez in the first game of the second, but Garcia-Lopez, ranked 58 in the world, held on stubbornly and rallied one set back 7-5 to force a decider.

The pair exchanged breaks again in the third set but Ferrer, covering every inch of the court, was able to gain an advantage and close it out 6-4.

The 31-year-old Spaniard will meet Lu, world No. 62, in the semis. Lu defeated American Steve Johnson 6-4, 6-4.

Isner, a winner in Auckland in 2010, won an epic against fifth seed Phillipp Kohlschreiber of Germany over two hours 25 minutes of play in 6-7 (4), 7-6 (4), 7-6 (5).

Isner will next play Bautista Agut, who beat American Jack Sock 6-1, 6-3.
