Ding Junhui scored win on the opening day of the Welsh Open in Newport. |
China's snooker ace Ding Junhui booked his place in the last 64 by overcoming Gary Wilson 4-2, including a 121 break in the opener. He also compiled runs of 57, 77 and 82.
The world number three - who has already won four ranking titles this season - confirmed that the victory will take some pressure off him as he looks to continue his fine form.
He said: "There was a bit of pressure to win this game but now there is less on me. I won the first frame and just tried my best."
Elsewhere, Stephen Maguire's title defence began with a 4-1 win over Elliot Slessor. Despite losing the first frame, Maguire knocked in breaks of 79 and 98 on his way to victory.
Mike Dunn edged out Aditya Mehta 4-3, winning the decider 79-9, and Gerard Greene defeated Li Yan 4-2 with a top break of 77.
