South Korea's short tracker Park Seung-Hi, bronze medalist in the women's 1,000m in Vancouver 2010, came out as the winner in the event on Friday, beating twice world 500m champion Fan Kexin and teenage teammate Shim Suk Hee in the final.

Park, 21, competing her second Olympics in Sochi after bringing home two bronze medals four years ago in Vancouver, timed one minute and 30.761 seconds for the title, edging China's Fan to the second place on 1:30.811.

The 17-year-old Shim, who set pace in the second and fourth lap before handing over the leadership to Park, was third on 1:31.027.

Jessica Smith of the United States finished fourth with a further 0.274 seconds behind.
